Division 12: Neo Tokyo - Chapter 1 [Demo, please leave your opinion in the comments, will be completed if feedback is positive]

Things were a lot different in Tokyo these days. Or at least, that's what everyone was thinking, with the rising levels in Demon activity in the last few months. The Yo-Kai Control Crew had spent countless nights pursuing and killing the malevolent spirits, and their Danger Level had only been escalating exponentially, from a Level 2 in January to a Level 4 in late March. Things were not going well, and thus they started a program that hadn't been seen in action since the Great Invasion almost twelve years prior. The Yo-Kai Control Officer Trials were once again in motion, and every single school in Tokyo was preparing their students to have a chance, as slim as it was, to have the honor of training the next generation of heroes.

Every kid trained their Gift, their special ability every human obtains at birth from the Sun Goddess Amaterasu. Everyone wanted to be THE next great hero that others could look up to. And no one wanted that title more than Yamaoka Masumi and Kanai Masahiko, two fifteen-year-olds from the District 12 High School. Masumi was, at one point, one of the most promising students to have ever set foot in campus, his ability, Rune, allowed him to conjure almost anything into reality by drawing a special symbol of his own creation; however, this ability was cursed with having the worst user imaginable. Young Masumi wasn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed, and he wasn't very athletic either, leaving the spotlight on his best friend Masahiko instead. Masahiko's ability, Metal Manipulation, allowed him to use his mind to bend metal to his will, thus allowing him to create weapons and open lots of mobility options, and one only needed to glance at Masahiko's grades and P.E Class results to see why he was, indeed, the strongest to have ever studied in District 12. To some degree, comparing them was like looking at two sides of the same coin.

EPISODE 1 | THE TRAINING

"Dude, WHY do we need to do all that stupid stuff to join the Control Crew?" whined Masumi over the phone, laying down on his bed, "It's ALWAYS the same. I GET they need the strongest, but couldn't I just use a Command Rune that says 'die' to solve every issue?" he continued, grabbing a handful of chips and stuffing his mouth with them. From the other side of the line Masahiko replied as he ran on a treadmill, "Because we all need to strengthen our power. You know damn well none of your Runes have worked, like, at all. Summons come out wrong, Weapons are harmless, and not a single person has obeyed your Commands yet! Masu, you know I love you, man. But you need to focus, we can't ever achieve our dream if you keep going like this." he said, his voice somber, Masumi loudly sighed and sat upright, "It ain't THAT bad! Last time I tried to summon a dragon, it came out as a Komodo Dragon, those are deadly, right? My Katana was made of plastic, I get it, but Demons can get intimidated, right? Who wouldn't be scared when a guy pulls out a sword from thin air? I'll be fine!" he replied, trying to justify his endless lazyness, Masahiko couldn't help but laugh "Heh. Yeah, sure, that's gonna be SO useful against a Level 10. Sure, the Demon type known for destroying buildings like nothing is gonna be scared of your big lizards and plastic swords. Listen, if we're going to do our Trial Simulator run tomorrow, I WANT you to try harder. You know the monsters at school are holograms, but the ones they use in the Trials? Those are real, man. Flesh and bone. If you died there, it would be no one's fault but mine. So, yeah, just do better, alright?" he said, hanging up the call. Masumi kept the phone in his hand for a moment before deciding to finally sleep, if he was going to try and do what his friend told him, he needed to be well rested, at least.

The next day was as uneventful as a school day could be for a student of District 12, with the usual stuff going on: Math class, History Class, Defense Against Demonic Curses, and Combat Theory. Masumi stared at the clock through all his classes, impatient for it to hit 11:30 A.M, the moment the test trials would begin. The exact moment the clock showed the right time, a tall man in soldier armor walked right in through the door, with the teacher being clearly shocked by the extreme punctuality of his arrival. "I am Captain Kasai, leader of the First Squadron of the Yo-Kai Control Crew. As you may already know, today is the first opportunity for you to show us your worth in the battlefield. The Test Trials begin right now, with an obligatory scan to determine how ready you are for combat." he concluded, stretching his arm as a small sensor suddenly popped out his gauntlet and scanned everyone in the room, "Your results should be in your Holo-Pad right now." he said. Masumi grabbed his pad and stared in horror at the display. "Combat Potential: 0%, Battle Power: 0%, IMPORTANT INFORMATION: THOSE WITH A UNIVERSAL PERCENTAGE OF LESS THAN 30% ARE DISQUALIFIED AND MUST TRY AGAIN NEXT OPPORTUNITY" he couldn't believe his eyes when he saw it, standing up and walking towards the soldier, "E-excuse me, sir, this must be an error, right?" he stuttered, Captain Kasai looked down at him, "Yamaoka Masumi, correct?" he asked, Masumi nodded, "I am sorry to inform you that, despite the clear potential of your ability, you lack the capability of taking it any further than a party trick. I'm afraid you would get eaten by a Level 1 before you got any use out of it." he declared. Masumi slowly walked back to his seat, as everyone stared at him.
